4.1 Tips for better images

Steve Punter June 26, 2022

They say “a picture paints a thousand words” so poetic right. But only if it works, otherwise it’s a waste of my eyeballs to look at.

Your images need to stop people in their tracks, or scroll so they can then look at your headline, then your description. How do we do that? Here are some tips for you

Number 1: Lot’s of light. Well lit images will give your camera it’s greatest chance of providing you with a highly detailed image

Number 2: Square images take up the most real estate on a smartphone regardless if the phone is in portrait or landscape format, so think about how people hold their phone and make a decision based on that.

Number 3: Shoot for the format. If this image will be on Instagram, shooting in square or portrait would be appropriate. For Linkedin, Maybe square or landscape would be better.

Number 4: if shooting a video, take the extra time to shoot a few pictures as well, these can then be used as cover images, or advertising images that are consistent with the video

Number 5: Contrasting text over the image. Don’t go overboard, but graphics over images can be a powerful tool to get your audience to stop. The text needs to be HIGHLY COMPELLING and be directly related to what is in the description.

This brings us to our next free tool, Canva. We are going to do a quick intro into Canva, and create a simple image with text ready to go on our social media.
